Catabolism of quinate to protocatechuate requires the consecutive action of quinate dehydrogenase (QuiA), dehydroquinate dehydratase (QuiB), and dehydroshikimate dehyratase (QuiC), Genes for catabolism of protocatechuate are encoded by the pca operon in the Acinetobacter calcoaceticus chromosome.
