ABSTRACT RNA interference (RNAi) is a posttranscriptional gene silencing mechanism acting as an antiviral defense in eukaryotes. During viral replication, intermediate double-stranded RNAs are processed into virus-derived small interfering RNAs (vsiRNAs) by the host enzyme, DICER.
