MAIN CONCLUSION: Stomatal traits in rice genotypes affect water use efficiency. Low-frequency small-size stomata correlate with whole plant efficiency, while low-frequency large-size stomata show intrinsic efficiency and responsiveness to vapour pressure deficit.
