This study provides the first report of a quantitative trait locus (QTL) in maize (Zea mays) for resistance to the southern root-knot nematode (SRKN) (Meloidogyne incognita). The SRKN can feed on the roots of maize in the U.S. Southern Coastal Plain region and can cause yield losses of 30% or more in heavily infested fields.
