BACKGROUND: Bombay phenotype is rare and characterized by a lack of H antigen on the surface of red blood cells (RBCs) with naturally occurring anti-H antibodies. The presence of anti-H necessitates the exclusive use of Bombay phenotype RBCs for transfusion.
