Acidity is a key determinant of fruit organoleptic quality. Here, a candidate gene for fruit acidity, designated MdMYB123, was identified from a comparative transcriptome study of two Ma1Ma1 apple (Malus domestica) varieties, "Qinguan (QG)" and "Honeycrisp (HC)" with different malic acid content.
