BACKGROUND: Talaromyces marneffei (T. marneffei) is a thermally dimorphic fungus causing systemic mycosis. Due to the atypical symptoms and diverse imaging findings, T. marneffei-infected patients may be misdiagnosed thus preventing timely antifungal therapy.
