BACKGROUND: Dermatophytosis is commonly encountered in the dermatological clinics. The main aetiological agents in dermatophytosis of skin and nails in humans are Trichophyton (T.) rubrum, T. mentagrophytes and T. interdigitale (former T. mentagrophytes-complex).
