BACKGROUND: APOE ε4 is independently associated with lobar intracranial hemorrhages (ICH). Although the ε4 allele enhances amyloid deposition in blood vessels, the ε2 allele predisposes to vasculopathic changes leading to rupture of amyloid laden vessels.
