Light is indispensable for the anthocyanin accumulation of red pear (Pyrus pyrifolia). Anthocyanin biosynthesis is catalyzed by a series of enzymes encoded by structural genes, which are regulated by a MYB-basic/helix-loop-helix-WD repeat (MYB-bHLH-WDR [MBW]) complex.
