Monogenic non-syndromic obesity is characterized by severe early-onset obesity with abnormal eating behaviour and endocrine disorders. Genes contributing to these rare forms of obesity are mainly located in the leptin/melanocortin pathway, with typically an autosomal additive inheritance of obesity.
