Southern tomato virus (STV) from genus Amalgavirus (Family Amalgaviridae) is a persistent virus infecting tomato crops worldwide. Information on genetic diversity and evolutionary mechanisms for plant persistent viruses are very scarce in comparison with plant acute viruses.
