Familial hypertriglyceridemia (FHTG) is an autosomal dominant disorder of lipoprotein metabolism, partly caused by mutations in the LPL gene, which encodes for the lipoprotein lipase. LPL deficiency can impair triglyceride hydrolysis which causes elevated plasma triglyceride levels.
