Mendelian susceptibility to mycobacterial disease (MSMD) is caused by inborn errors of IFN-γ immunity. Affected patients are highly and selectively susceptible to weakly virulent mycobacteria, such as environmental mycobacteria and Bacillus Calmette-Guérin vaccines.
