Early and severe forms of polycystic kidney disease (PKD) do already manifest during childhood or adolescence. They are characterized by enlarged kidneys and diminished renal function that prenatally may result in Potter's oligohydramnios sequence. Genetically, various defects can mimic this phenotype.
