SLC4A11 mutations cause cases of congenital hereditary endothelial dystrophy (CHED), Harboyan syndrome (HS), and Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy (FECD). Defective water reabsorption from corneal stroma by corneal endothelial cells (CECs) leads to these corneal dystrophies.
