In the dicotyledonous plant Arabidopsis thaliana, the cotyledon chloroplast biogenesis factor AtCYO1 is crucial for the biogenesis of cotyledon chloroplasts. Arabidopsis mutants lacking AtCYO1 have pale cotyledons but develop normal mature leaves.
