BACKGROUND: The purpose of the present study was the distribution of blaOXA-1, blaPER-1 and blaVEB genes and the genotyping of these genes in extended-spectrum β-lactamases (ESBL) producing uropathogenic and diarrheagenic Escherichia coli isolates.
