The direct causes of idiopathic carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), a common upper limb entrapment neuropathy, remain unknown. It is however generally accepted that an increase in pressure within the carpal tunnel structure, which contains nine flexor tendons, causes compression of the median nerve.
