PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Familial hypercholesterolaemia is associated with lifelong elevated cholesterol levels and is an important cause of premature coronary heart disease (CHD). This condition is often underdiagnosed and undertreated. Awareness of this condition is poor among nonlipid specialists.
