Powdery mildew, caused by Blumeria graminis f. sp. tritici (Bgt), is one of the most devastating foliar diseases of wheat and imposes a constant challenge on wheat breeders. Xiaohongpi, a Chinese landrace of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), shows resistance to powdery mildew during the entire growth stage in the field and under controlled conditions.
