Erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP) is a rare autosomal dominant disorder of haem biosynthesis resulting from a partial decrease in ferrochelatase (FECH) activity which leads to the excessive accumulation of protoporphyrin in blood, erythrocytes and tissues.
