BACKGROUND: Fenhexamid, a sterol biosynthesis inhibitor effective against Botrytis, inhibits the 3-ketoreductase (Erg27) involved in C-4 demethylation. Several fenhexamid-resistant phenotypes have been detected in Botrytis cinerea populations from French vineyards.
