CONTEXT: Pheochromocytoma/paraganglioma occurs almost exclusively after paternal transmission of succinate dehydrogenase D (SDHD) mutations. This parent-of-origin effect has not been fully explained but is accompanied by obligate loss of the maternal copy of chromosome 11.
