Escherichia coli thioredoxin is a small disulfide-containing redox protein with the active site sequence Cys-Gly-Pro-Cys-Lys. Mutations were made in this region of the thioredoxin gene and the mutant proteins expressed in E. coli strains lacking thioredoxin.
