Occult hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection (OBI) is characterized by presence of HBV DNA in blood or liver tissue without detectable HBV surface antigen (HBsAg), with or without antibodies to hepatitis B core antigen (anti-HBc) or antibodies against HBsAg (anti-HBs).
