BACKGROUND: Multiple lines of evidence have implicated the Caveolin-1 (CAV1) gene in prostate cancer progression. CAV1 is located within the locus at 7q31-33 associated with prostate cancer aggressiveness, and was identified as being overexpressed in prostate tumors.
