BACKGROUND & AIMS: Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is caused by immunologic reactions to ingested/inhaled allergens. The diagnosis is considered if >or=15 eosinophils per high-powered field (eos/hpf) are detected in mucosal biopsies.
