PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Here we give context to new data on neonatal diabetes mellitus, a rare group of insulin-requiring monogenic forms of diabetes presenting at birth or shortly thereafter. Genetic studies are critical in the diagnosis and treatment of these patients.
