Arabidopsis thaliana L. produces flavonoid pigments, i.e. flavonols, anthocyanidins and proanthocyanidins, from dihydroflavonol substrates. A small family of putative flavonol synthase (FLS) genes had been recognized in Arabidopsis, and functional activity was attributed only to FLS1.
