In Philadelphia chromosome-positive (Ph+) leukemia BCR/ABL induces the leukemic phenotype. Targeted inhibition of BCR/ABL by kinase inhibitors leads to complete remission. However, patients with advanced Ph+ leukemia relapse and acquire resistance, mainly due to point mutations in BCR/ABL.
