Leptosphaeria maculans is the ascomycete responsible for one of the most damaging diseases of oilseed rape (Brassica napus), stem canker of crucifers. Both avirulence (AvrLm) genes in the fungus and resistance (Rlm) genes in the plant are genetically clustered.
