The physiological role of digalactosyldiacylglycerol (DGDG) in photosynthesis was examined using a dgdA mutant of Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 that is defective in the biosynthesis of DGDG. The dgdA mutant cells showed normal growth under low light (LL) conditions.
