Plasmodiumfalciparum merozoite surface protein-1 (MSP-1) shows extensive antigenic diversity. This is due to the presence of seven variable blocks, five semi-conserved and also five conserved blocks. The variable blocks in the MSP-1 gene are principally dimorphic, displaying either K1 or MAD20 type; except for the block 2 region which is represented by three alleles, an RO33 type in addition to the other two....
