We used insertional mutagenesis to produce genetically tagged mutants of the Dutch elm disease fungus Ophiostoma novo-ulmi subsp. novo-ulmi. We first optimized transformation of O. novo-ulmi protoplasts by the restriction enzyme mediated integration method.
