Phytochromobilin (PPhiB) is an open chain tetrapyrrole molecule that functions as the chromophore of light-sensing phytochromes in plants. Derived from heme, PPhiB is synthesized through an open chain tetrapyrrole intermediate, biliverdin IXalpha (BV), in the biosynthesis pathway.
