The deduced amino acid sequence derived from the sequence of a fragment of DNA from the free-living diazotroph Herbaspirillum seropedicae was aligned to the homologous protein sequences encoded by the nifA genes from Azorhizobium caulinodans, Rhizobium leguminosarum, Rhizobium meliloti and Klebsiella pneumoniae.
