BACKGROUND: Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) given concurrently with chemotherapy in 4 large randomized clinical trials did not improve patient outcomes compared with chemotherapy alone in advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
