Polycomb group (PcG) proteins are evolutionary conserved proteins that stably maintain established transcriptional patterns over cell generations. The FERTILIZATION INDEPENDENT SEED (FIS) PcG complex from plants has a similar composition to the Polycomb repressive complex 2 from animals.
