Twelve different Ty1-copia and Ty3-gypsy group LTR retrotransposons were compared for their usefulness in SSAP marker development in two agriculturally important Vicia species. Three of the retrotransposons, PDR1, Tps19 and Tvf4, yielded useful SSAP marker systems in V. faba, and V. narbonensis. Another, Tvf1 was a good source of SSAP markers in V. narbonensis alone.
