Imatinib mesylate (Gleevec, Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation, East Hanover, NJ) has revolutionized the treatment of chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) with marked improvement in survival in all three phases--chronic, accelerated, and blast.
