A novel Gram-positive bacterium, strain A35(T), was isolated from coastal soil at Chiba, Japan, and was identified as a member of the genus Paenibacillus on the basis of phenotypic and phylogenetic analyses. The bacterium was found to be a facultatively anaerobic and endospore-forming rod.
