Analysis of cDNAs from Macrovipera lebetina transmediterranea (Mlt) and Echis ocellatus (Eo) venom gland libraries encoding disintegrins argued strongly for a common ancestry of the messengers of short disintegrins and those for precursors of dimeric disintegrin chains.
