Niemann-Pick disease type C (NPC) is an autosomal recessive, neurovisceral lipid storage disorder. Mutations in two genes (NPC1 and NPC2) produce indistinguishable clinical phenotypes by biochemical mechanisms that have not yet been entirely clarified.
