The roles of the calcium sensing receptor gene (CaSR) and the multiple endocrine neoplasia gene (MEN1) were investigated in Keeshond dogs with familial hyperparathyroidism. Mutations in these genes have been shown to cause familial isolated hyperparathyroidism (FIH) in humans.
