The CAMPATH-1 (CDw52) antigen has been purified from human spleen. The antigenic epitope is heat stable but sensitive to mild alkali treatment. Experiments with phosphatidylinositol-specific phospholipase C indicate that it is anchored by a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchor.
