We have identified a second RpoH homolog, RpoH(II), in the alpha-proteobacterium Rhodobacter sphaeroides. Primary amino acid sequence comparisons demonstrate that R. sphaeroides RpoH(II) belongs to a phylogenetically distinct group with RpoH orthologs from alpha-proteobacteria that contain two rpoH genes.
