Drosophila melanogaster strains defective in repair, antioxidant defense, and apoptosis displayed a higher aging rate than the wild-type strains when unexposed to ionizing radiation. Irradiation changed the lifespan depending on the genotype. The lifespan and the functional (neuromuscular) activity, which reflects the "life quality", changed in the same direction.
