The rhamnose-GlcNAc disaccharide linker is fundamental to the structural integrity of mycobacterial cell wall. The donor dTDP-rhamnose is synthesized by four enzymes (RmlA, B, C, and D) beginning with dTTP and glucose-1-phosphate.
