Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is the most prevalent inheritable muscle disease. It is caused by mutations in the approximately 2.5-megabase dystrophin (Dys) encoding gene. Therapeutic attempts at DMD have relied on injection of allogeneic Dys-positive myoblasts.
